Democratic Senator Ben Cardin

Ben Cardin is the Junior United States Senator from Maryland since the election in 2006. Cardin is a member of the Democratic Party and a former House of Representative from 1987-2007.  Being the incumbent, he is challenged by republican Daniel Bongino.

Cardin believes that we need to work to guarantee that Maryland’s small businesses have access to credit and other tools for their success. In other words, he would like to see small businesses thrive.  He would like to see Maryland develop policies that would help the economy. Cardin would like to see more opportunities for jobs throughout Maryland, and all across the United States. He encourages the Budget Control Act of 2011. It is a compromise to raise the debt ceiling in steps in return for putting deficit reduction measures in place.

He would like to put the Affordable Care Act into effect. This act provides coverage to all Americans and reduces our budget deficit. The Affordable Care Act bans insurance companies from imposing lifetime dollar limits on health benefits, which protects the 3.7 million Maryland residents who have private insurance plans.  Cardin promotes lifesaving protective services and research.

He believes in improving the effectiveness of U.S. and multilateral aid programs. He stated that “our nation depends on three D’s: diplomacy, defense, and development.” Cardin would like to continue to have the resources necessary to carry out their high priority missions. He would like to ensure that we bring our troops home at an appropriate and honorable manner.
